Frequently Asked Questions

 
Do I have to audition?
YES. Singers are invited to audition in September for our Fall/Winter season. Auditions are announced on the News Page here on our website. We do not audition mid-season. Please check the website in mid-August for audition details.

We occasionally audition in January to fill any vacancies between our Fall and Spring terms. All audition announcements are made via our news blog and newsletter. You can sign up for our newsletter on our News Page.

How much are dues?
Choir dues are set at $45 per month. Dues can be paid in advance per season ($175) or for the entire year ($325).
 
Which months does the choir sing?
Our Fall/Winter season starts in September and runs through January. The Winter/Spring season begins in mid-January and concludes in early June.
 
When and where does the choir rehearse?
We rehearse every Monday evening from 6:30-8:30pm at the Portland Center for Spiritual Living – 6211 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
 
What does “Interfaith Gospel” mean?
We welcome singers of all faith backgrounds and spiritual traditions to sing in the choir. We celebrate together in singing only traditional and contemporary black gospel music.
 
Can teens sing with PIGC?
Teens with singing experience can be in the choir provided they are accompanied by a parent or other adult.
 
Who are the Music Directors?
LaRhonda Steele, a multi-talented Portland Soul, R&B and Gospel artist.
John Gainer is our recurring guest director. He is a former U of O music professor with extensive national choir experience.
